Competition Rules and Schedule
Eligibility
- All athletes must be 18 years of age or older, or 6 years of age or older with written parental consent (in English).
- Competitors must hold any recognized certification in underwater dance, mermaiding, or freediving.
- All athletes must be in possession of a signed “medical certificate of non-contraindications to mermaiding / underwater dancing”, written in English.
- The first 30 applicants will be accepted on a first come, first served basis.

- Performance Glass Tank – Dimensions: Length 5m x Width 2.2m x Height 2.2m
Competition Contents
- Preliminaries (Tank)
- To be held on the second day of the expo, 13 April 2023, 2PM-4PM.
- Warm up from 10:30AM-1PM in order.
- Competitors to select their own music to enhance choreography, to be submitted to organizers one day in advance.
- Competitors will perform a 4-minute underwater dance routine.
- The top 10 competitors by score will advance to the finals.
- Finals (Tank)
- To be held on the third day of the expo, 14 April 2023, 2PM-4PM.
- Warm up from 10:30AM-1PM in order.
- Competitors to select their own music to enhance choreography, to be submitted to organizers 24hrs in advance.
- Finalists have 4 minutes to perform in the tank to this provided music.
Competition Format
- Competitors will decide the preliminary order by draw in advance. final order will be from lowest to highest score from previous round.
- Each athlete must appear at a location designated by the jury at least 60 minutes prior their Official Time (OT) or a penalty (LATE) is applied.
- Preliminaries will require performance of compulsory moves first before free choreography.
Preliminaries – Compulsory Moves
- Leap – Angelic – Aptitude (Kneeling)- Sitting Down – Lying Down – Crying Baby – Passe
- Compulsory Moves ~ 2mins + Free choreography ~ 2mins
Finals
- All choreography freeform + Free Routine (Free choreography ~ 4mins)
Appearance
- Max 15 seconds. Show Ok hand gesture to judges for 5 seconds countdown to start the music, music must start within 20 seconds or a penalty (LATE) is applied.
- Routine will require performance of compulsory moves first before free choreography.
Curtain Call
- After the music ends, return to surface within 5 seconds for a breath and conduct a curtain call at max 15 seconds.
- Show Ok hand gesture to judges for 5 seconds count down.
- Athlete must enter water within 20 seconds or a penalty (LATE) is applied.
Competition time/music time
- Prelims 4 minutes
- Finals 4 minutes
- Appearance and curtain call additional.
